Sounding out solutions
Critical to the building's design was the selection of materials and acoustic systems to keep reverberated noise to a minimum, with particular consideration to ceilings, floors and structural elements.

Jupiter's at the Crossing
Champaign, Illinois

Following the theme of their first restaurant, an intimate downtown Champaign pizzeria, the owners of Jupiter's hoped to replicate its friendly atmosphere in a three-level sister property appealing to families.

Gorski Reifsteck Architects achieved the result by positioning tin ceilings over the pool tables and bar, placing brick on the walls, selecting oak trim and designer doors, integrating a fireplace to separate the dining room from the bar area and paying special attention to acoustics.

The resulting Jupiter's at the Crossing is a 36,000-square-foot family entertainment center featuring dining and billiards on the first floor; a four-player bowling alley and bar in the basement; and a 9,000-square-foot area on the second floor for conferences, receptions and other special events. Both first and second floors also offer heated outdoor seating.
